New Horizon School - Los Angeles (NHSLA), founded by the Islamic Center of Southern California in 1984, is a private elementary Islamic school committed to providing students with high quality academic and character education. New Horizon School - Los Angeles graduates students with academic competence and a strong American Muslim identity. Alumni are empowered to take responsibility for their own well-being and to contribute positively to the well-being of their communities as they advance their studies to serve and lead in diverse arenas.
NHSLA is fully licensed and approved by the State of California as a qualified school and offers enrollment for preschool, pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and elementary from 1st to 5th grade. We comply with state policies and we also have our own special policies that make us unique. We are accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
Job Summary
Teachers create a safe and nurturing environment that not only stimulates intellectual curiosity and independence, but incorporates culturally responsive social-emotional learning and growth. Class size is about 8 – 12 students. Teachers establish an effective rapport with students, motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for further education in accordance with each student’s ability. Teachers establish good relationships with parents and other staff members.

Salary is competitive with private schools in the area. NHSLA offers paid time off, full medical insurance after successful completion of the probation period, and an option to participate in the 401K plan.

Responsibilities
- Create lesson plans based on the school’s curriculum and prepare needed materials.
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies based on the diverse needs of all the students that engage all students.
- Develop and administer a variety of assessments to measure students’ growth towards goals and to monitor students mastery of the content standards.
- Maintain accurate student records, in a timely and confidential manner.
- Analyze informal and formal student assessment results and use this information to drive and inform instruction.
- Communicate and collaborate professionally with teammates, parents, and community members.
- Implement classroom management techniques to create a nurturing and structured classroom environment.
- Maintain high expectations for students’ academic achievement and character development.
- Value and draw upon students’ experiences and backgrounds.
- Identify student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
- Attend workshops and other professional development activities, as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, with at least three years of job-related experience. Teaching credential preferred.
- Strong organizational, written, and oral communications skills required. Excellent English proficiency.
- Passionate about working with children from culturally diverse communities.
- Fingerprint clearance from the Department of Justice.
- Health screening, including proof of Tuberculosis clearance.
- Proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
