New Horizon School – Los Angeles is a closely-knit, collaborative, and diverse learning community. Positive relationships exist between families and the school.
Our small community permits our teachers and students to become highly familiar with each other and to develop a sense of comfort with each other. This helps develop social competence amongst our students, an important building block in the development of effective problem-solving skills. For our students, the school becomes a second home, a place where the child feels the comfort and encouragement to take intellectual and personal risks, to succeed, to fail, to grow and, ultimately, to flourish.
Of equal importance is that our smaller school allows students to see children from different grades, often several times a day. Such visual exchanges make everybody familiar with each other. Teachers also have interactions with students from other grades, establishing a sense of familiarity even before the child has entered their classroom.
The school is grateful to be part of the community of the Islamic Center of Southern California. We share the facility and students attend the Khutbas in the Center once a month.
In addition, we are part of the wider community. Providing Islamic education in the American context means more than teaching Muslim children about their religion.
